LUCIUS BEEBE BOOKS

"CHRONOLOGY OF BOOKS BY LUCIUS BEEBE AND CHARLES CLEGG "

INCLUDING CURRENT STOCKS AND ON HAND AND PRICING

A NOTE ABOUT "1ST EDITION" EARLY BEEBE BOOKS VERSUS THE LATER BONANZA REPRINTS.

THE ORIGINAL 1ST EDITION BEEBE, AND BEEBE AND CLEGG BOOKS HAD GOOD PHOTO REPRODUCTION BUT WERE PRINTED IN THE LATE 1930'S AND 1940'S. BOOK PHOTO REPRODUCTION WAS NOT AS GOOD AS IT IS TODAY.

WHEN IN THE 1960'S BONANZA BOOKS BEGAN REPRINTING THE EARLY BEEBE/CLEGG BOOKS IT APPEARS THAT THEY PHOTOGRAPHED THE PHOTOS FROM THE 1ST EDITIONS RATHER THAN USING ORIGINAL PLATES. THUS THE BONANZA REPRINTS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME CONTRAST AND CLARITY OF PHOTO AS DO THE FIRST EDITIONS AND THUS THE DIFFERENCE IN PRICES. STILL IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO SPEND LARGER SUMS OF MONEY, THE REPRINTS MAY BE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. ALSO NOTE THAT THE BONANZA EDITIONS MANY TIMES INDICATED THAT THEY WERE PRINTED IN 1945 OR EARLIER. THEY IN FACT WERE NOT, BUT RATHER WERE REPRINTS FROM THE 1960'S.

WHILE BEEBE CHOSE THE PHOTOS FOR HIS EARLY WORKS, NOT ALL ARE HIS WITH MANY BY OTHER KNOWN RAILROAD PHOTOGRAPHERS AND SOME RAIL PHOTO SERVICE SHOTS AS WELL.
